Screenr

Page history last edited by Keith Schoch 9 years ago

Resource Name: Screenr

URL: https://www.screenr.com

Uses: Brainstorm and Organize, Survey and Poll, Quiz Quickly, Construct Meaning, Write Together, Read and Respond, Watch and React

Teacher Time Investment: IIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

   Student Learning Curve: III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Description: Screenr allows teachers and students to easily create screencasts (sound and video recordings) of what they see on the screens of their Macs or PCs. They can thus describe a process online and share this with classmates or the teacher. Super easy to use and embed, or save to YouTube. Another site for creating simple screen casts is Screencast-o-matic, which again offers one touch recording. Present.me allows students to record themselves presenting a slide deck, but is somewhat more involved than either of the other sites.

If you have issues with Screenr, or it's asking you to load updates of Java that you're simply not qualified to upload on your school computers, then use Screencast-O-Matic instead. Once you arrive there, use the very simple Version 1.0. It lets you record in a snap, and videos can be uploaded to YouTube, saved as video files, or hosted right there on the SOM site.

The video below shows Screenr's basic features (reload page if video isn't playing).

Sample Applications for the Classroom:

  • Teachers can create their own how-to videos for using new applications.
  • Teachers can post assignment instructions which utilize online sites and documents.
  • Students can narrate projects or take notes on Internet resources.

Notes and Caveats:

  • Free for now, but who knows for how long?

  • If you want to share your screen in real time (that is, allow one or multiple users to see what you're seeing on your computer live), then check out Screen Leap. No installation, plug-ins, or even sign-ups.
