Description: Class Responder is GoFormative light. This assessment site, designed for grades K-6, allows for online quizzing of reading passages or simple questions. Users can take advantage of the few free assessments available, download additional assessment sets for a small fee, or create their own (self-created assessments cannot include reading passages). Teachers can also launch instant "quick polls" (multiple choice or true/false). Students are not preset as classes, but enter the site via a class (teacher's name) and code (in my case, my room number). Data analysis is simple in design, but does allow the teacher to view items missed across a class as well as individual student percentage scores. See the very bottom of this page for an introductory video to the site.

The screen shot below shows the activities assignment page.

This is how a reading passage would appear to students, with a sliding pane that contains the passage:

Sample Applications for the Classroom:

  • Assign quick quizzes to assess overall understanding as a lesson progresses. Once students are logged in, the teacher can launch "quick polls" which immediately appear on students' screens. The teacher can view results as students check in.
  • Teachers can assign available reading comprehension passages for those students/parents desiring extra practice out of class.

Notes and Caveats:

  • If you're seeking a robust reading passage assessment tool for older grades, use Curriculet or Actively Learn instead. Use prepared text and question sets, or create your own.
  • If you want multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and other short assessment types in a simple, no frills environment, use TestMoz instead.
  • If you're looking for reading passages with question sets that probe more deeply, try ThinkCERCA or ReadTheory instead.
